MT. PULASKI COURTHOUSE

The Mt. Pulaski Courthouse (pictured below along with pictures of a couple of rooms containing our Windsor chairs) is a Illinois State Historic Site on the village square in Mt. Pulaski, Illinois.  Abraham Lincoln practiced law in this Courthouse before the Eighth Judicial Circuit. The Courthouse was built in 1848 and was the county seat of Logan County until 1853 when it was moved to Lincoln.
At the time Lincoln first came to the Mt. Pulaski Courthouse, he was a senior partner to associate William Herndon in their Springfield law firm.  Lincoln handled two patent cases which began at Mt. Pulaski, but because of a fire in 1857, which destroyed the court's records, not much more is known of his legal work at this courthouse.
The Courthouse is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. from March to October and noon to 4 p.m. from November through February.  It is closed most holidays.  For more information contact: Site Manager, Mt. Pulaski Courthouse State Historic Site, P.O. Box 355, Lincoln, Illinois 62656 or call: (217) 732-8930.
