Heart  of Illinois  Workcamp

    This summer the three churches of the Mt. Pulaski charge UMC, are hosting a Group Workcamp. The Group Workcamps Foundation is a non-profit, interdenominational Christian volunteer home repair organization headquartered in Loveland , Colorado . Three hundred fifty Junior and Senior high youth have signed up through Group to participate in “Heart of Illinois Workcamp.” These young people, their chaperones and Group staff will be sleeping, eating and having evening worship at the Mt. Pulaski grade school from July 9-15. They will be repairing homes in Mt. Pulaski , Lincoln , Chestnut, Latham, Elkhart , Beason and other parts of the area.

    As hosts the churches of this charge have been actively involved in signing up homes, reviewing applications, and raising the money for materials as all repair is free. Though these three churches are designated as host, they must rely on many other congregations and organizations throughout the area for help. Even the number of cookies required is somewhat inundating. Between 800 and a thousand are consumed in a normal evening. They thank all who have signed up for cookies, afternoon snacks, pillow treats, etc.

    These young people will be coming from all over the U.S. and even a group from Ontario , Canada . We know they will leave our community in better shape. Hopefully their time in Logan County will have a positive effect on their lives as well.
