M. Randolph, 99, of Lincoln went home to be with the Lord on Jan.
12, 2007, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be from
5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral
Home, 620 Pulaski St. Her
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Beason United Methodist
Church. Burial will be in
Randolph Cemetery.
Mrs. Randolph and her husband
lived their entire married lives in Logan County. She taught country
school for eight years and resumed her teaching career in 1955, for
a total of 26 years of teaching in Logan County.
She was born Nov. 29, 1907, in
Beason as the fifth child of Humphrey and Elizabeth Smythe Smith.
She married Harry Randolph, a farmer from Kenney, on Feb. 22, 1934,
and he died Feb. 10, 2003, after 69 years together.
She is survived by three sons,
Robert M. (and Jo Ann) Randolph of Peoria, Dr. John E. (and
Margaret) Randolph of Bloomington and David (and Catherine) Randolph
of Magee, Miss.; one sister, Ethel L. Cox of Lincoln; and eight
grandchildren, Dr. Gregory Randolph of Bloomington, Dr. Bradley
Randolph of Fort Madison, Iowa, Jeffery Randolph of Peoria, Julie
Knipstein of La Grange Park, Dr. Laura Oakey of Bloomington, Troy D.
Randolph of Pewaukee, Wis., Travis S. Randolph of Epesses,
Switzerland, and Tara Randolph of New Orleans, La.; and 16
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death
by two brothers, Wilbur G. Smith and an infant brother, and two
sisters, Marguerite Jett and Marie Remington.
She was an active member of
Beason United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern
Star for 77 years, past matron of Lincoln Chapter 351, past worthy
high priestess of Chester Woman’s Club, past member of Logan
County Home Extension, a member of Rebekah Lodge of Lincoln for 55
years, president and chair of Randolph Farms, and was one of the
oldest living alumni of Lincoln College.
She attended Union School for
eight years, one year as a freshman at Mount Pulaski High School and
then transferred to Beason High School, where she graduated in 1924.
She then attended Lincoln College for two years and graduated in
1926. She took summer courses at ISU.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to Beason United Methodist Church, Lincoln
Masonic Temple or the Lincoln College Building Fund and will be
accepted at the funeral home. |
