LINCOLN -- John Stillman West, 79, of Lincoln, formerly of Mount Pulaski, died Thursday, March 2, 2006, at 12:30 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln, with Father James Cravens officiating.

Inurnment will be at the church, following the service.

Mr. West was an elementary teacher in Mount Pulaski for 26 years and coached basketball at the school. He also taught and coached at Waverly.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.

He was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Mount Pulaski to Gordon Stillman and Marguerite Anderson West. He married Jacqueline Berrydate on Aug. 23, 1952, in Springfield.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Elizabeth (and Jim) Holtzman of Redmond, WA.; one brother, Gordon West; and two grandchildren.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the vestry of the church. He was also a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge 914, Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447 and the South Side Club. He was a former board member of Mount Pulaski Savings and Loan and Tomlinson Charitable Trust. He served as a Mount Pulaski city councilman.

He officiated high school and college basketball in Illinois. He was also a crop and hail adjustor.
