Lincoln’s Birthday Celebration at Mt. Pulaski Courthouse on Feb 11

28 Jan., 2017 Herald News:  Mount Pulaski Courthouse to celebrate Lincoln's birthday with visit from his teacher <-- click here

     Charles Starling, of Springfield, Ill will portray Mentor Graham who was Lincoln’s teacher at New Salem. He will be greeted by three descendants of the Mentor Graham who lived at New Salem in  the 1830’s and 1840’s: Jeane Duff Connolley, her daughters, Jane Connolley Pharis  & Ann Connolley Olson. 

     The program will begin with a greeting from Abraham Lincoln at 1:15, followed by Starling’s portrayal of Mentor Graham.  He will share the experience of a “blab” school and tell about Abraham Lincoln as a student even though he was already an adult when he moved to New Salem.

      Several children’s activities will be available from noon to 3:30.  Abe’s Apple Pie with Rum Sauce and cookies will be served from Noon to 4 p.m.

         American Legion Post 447, VFW Post 777 & SAL Squadron 447 Flag & Rifle Honor Guard Salute - band - speakers
         flags decorate all veteran graves
         Presentation of flowers by children and wreaths by Mt. Pulaski veterans units, City of Mt. Pulaski and various civic organizations
         Reading of names of local deceased veterans, POW's and/or Armed Forces Personnel killed in action or died of war-related wounds or sickness
         Invocation and Benediction by local minister
inclement weather:  Mt. Pulaski American Legion Hall
   Steenbergen Cemetery Chapel - 11:30 am - 3 mi south of Mt. Pulaski via Illiopolis Blacktop - "Bo Jacks" road
                                                                               west 1/2 mi. off of Illiopolis Blacktop
         American Legion Post 447, VFW Post 777 and SAL Squadron 447 Flag & Rifle Honor Guard Salute - MPHS band, piano & singing - speakers 
         15 ft. flags each designated and marked with a name of a veteran buried in this cemetery (Civil War to present)
              - along pathways throughout the cemetery
         Invocation and Benediction by local minister

18th Dec., 2016  Mount Pulaski Community Choir presents Christmas musical: Christmas Carol Celebration,

a Christmas Musical (by Benjamin Harlan and Ragan Courtney) on Sunday afternoon,

This Cantata is made up of 18 favorite Carols.   Come & enjoy singing with us to Celebrate this Joyous Season!
