This page was started in April, 2005 - thousands more, of course, have visited this circa 1847 Courthouse in previous years before and since its dedication as an Illinois Historic Site in 1936 (opened in 1939 as an "Abraham Lincoln Shrine").  Local businessman and Illinois State Representative Nickolas Hubbard, together with Logan County Superintendant E.H. Lukenbill, were prime movers in acquiring state recognition for this historic site, proposing that the State of Illinois purchase this building and acreage for $1, which was approved, and which continues to be offered as an excellent domestic and foreign tourist attraction.
