1854
Cast Iron Tombstone Trial
Mt. Pulaski
Courthouse
Re-enactment
Sunday -
Feb. 10,
2 pm
Brush up on your
history of Abraham Lincoln, Judge David Davis and the Illinois
8th Judicial Circuit Court as it traveled through Mt. Pulaski - Logan
County Seat [1848 - 1854].
Two tombstone trials actually took place, one at the Mt. Pulaski county
seat and the 2nd at the Lincoln, IL.
county seat. In both trials, Mr. Lincoln was defense attorney and
Judge David Davis presided.
Both verdicts were appealed to the Illinois State Supreme Court and
President Lincoln learned of the result
of his Mt. Pulaski court appeal in 1864 during the anguish and
tribulations of the Civil War. Copies of actual trial
documents have been obtained and further research of this case has been
conducted. This re-enactment will employ
a selected jury from the audience. Google Judge David Davis and discover
his eventual appointment years later.
Seating is limited, so get your FREE tickets ASAP.
Any donations will go to the Mt. Pulaski Abraham Lincoln
Bi-Centennial 200th Birthday Committee [1809 - 2009].
If necessary, a repeat performance will be conducted following a
short break.
