Paul Beaver, in his ABRAHAM LINCOLN IN LOGAN COUNTY, ILLINOIS,  presents us with a useful history which transcends from Judge Lawrence Stringer's HISTORY OF LOGAN COUNTY (1911) to a more comprehensive and documented story.  The work, with important contributions from Phil Bertoni and Ron Keller, is both scholarly and readable.  The endnotes and the bibliography comprise a major contribution.  In addition, the book offers a virtual Who's Who of the multitude of persons and institutions fostering local history in Logan County.”  —Dr. Mark A. Plummer, Professor of History Emeritus, Illinois State University, Past President, Illinois State Historical Society

“Full of useful information and local lore, Paul Beaver’s Abraham Lincoln in Logan County Illinois, 1834-1960 is sure to please readers. Lincoln’s vital presence is revealed in the family stories and the documentary records of Logan County.”      —Dr. Thomas F. Schwartz, Illinois State Historian

“Paul Beaver knows the history of Logan County like the back of his hand.  He tells the story with affection and a keen eye for detail. The collaboration with Ron Keller and Phil Bertoni shows Abraham Lincoln’s deep involvement in the history of Logan County, and the contributions of Logan County to Lincoln’s career.  Paul’s affection for his community and Abraham Lincoln are evident throughout the book.”  —Bob Lenz, Bloomington, IL., President of Abraham Lincoln Association

Paul Beaver, who is professor emeritus of history at Lincoln College, said he has long desired to write a book on Abraham Lincoln’s activities in Logan County—which would use much of the history from Judge Lawrence B. Stringer’s 1911 History of Logan County along with local historical discoveries from the past century.  This book is therefore a culmination of years of investigation and study.

The 200-plus book contains over 60 photos and illustrations pertaining to this era—most of which depict Abraham Lincoln’s activities in Logan County—several heretofore previously unpublished.  Most of the illustrations by Lloyd Ostendorf have been colorized..

Beaver was assisted in writing this work by Lincoln College Professor Ron Keller, curator of the Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College, and retired high school teacher Phil Bertoni of Mt. Pulaski.  Keller contributed a chapter on Lincoln’s political activities and Bertoni one on Lincoln’s visits and work as a lawyer at the Mt. Pulaski court, when it was the Logan County Seat (1848-1855).
